Expansion, recruitment and on site demonstrations – Northampton firms celebrates

Cleaning the air to protect workers and prevent deaths in the workplace is all in a day’s work for Northamptonshire based company McCarthy Environmental Ltd which this month celebrates a new move and dramatic expansion.

The dust and fume extraction company, which works with companies across the UK, has moved from a town centre office into a new 1,800 sq ft warehouse in Northampton’s Swan Valley business park on the edge of the M1. The company is now recruiting more staff and putting the finishing touches to its new demonstration workshops, which will enable customers to see and test equipment for themselves.

Mick McCarthy, who first set up the business 17 years ago, explained: “There are around 12,000 deaths each year due to occupational respiratory diseases and our business is committed to helping staff breathe easily so they can avoid the dangers of breathing contaminated air at work. Fumes are a serious hazard to health and can result in occupational asthma, respiratory disorders and cancer.

“Our business is expanding and these new premises secure our future and give us room to grow yet further. Basing our businesses here in the heart of the UK and only minutes from the M1 motorway is no accident – ensuring we have access to the whole country and to our stockists and partners Europe-wide.”

The company’s new demonstration area is being stocked with a range of equipment, which will include high vacuum extraction units, welding film filters, dust extractors, extraction systems and extraction arms.

“Until this point many of our customers would have had to fly out to Germany to see the equipment in person, now they can come to our Northamptonshire premises,” added Mick.

It is a legal requirement for all companies to comply with The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) 2002 Regulations, to control operatives’ exposure to dusts and fumes to below specified levels.

To celebrate its expansion and new premises and to educate businesses on the dangers of breathing contaminated air at work McCarthy Environmental is holding an open day on Wednesday, 17th May. This is open to all businesses wanting to find out more about legislation, ways to protect workers and specialist equipment.
