President of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Dr Peter Kulitz, flew to the UK this week to attend an open day at Northamptonshire dust and fume extraction supply company McCarthy Environmental.
Dr Kulitz, Managing Director of Germany based filtration equipment manufacturing company ESTA, and colleagues welcomed businesses from across the UK as they gathered at McCarthy Environmental’s new Swan Valley premises to discuss health and safety legislation, ways to protect workers and the specialist equipment needed to prevent deaths in the workplace.
Dr Kulitz said: “There are around 12,000 deaths each year due to occupational respiratory diseases and the insufficient protection is a scandal, which is why events like this are so essential – to explain and discuss the importance of health and safety, risk management and proper legislation.”
Bill Cassells, a former Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Inspector (LEV), now owner and lead trainer with LEV (Industrial Ventilation) training organisation OXYL8 Ltd, delivered a keynote speech at the event, while the ESTA team treated guests to demonstrations of their extraction equipment.
Mick McCarthy, who first set up his business 17 years ago, said: “Thank you to ESTA and to all the businesses that joined us at this event, not only packed with essential information but also an opportunity to showcase our new premises and celebrate the company’s expansion.”
It is a legal requirement for all companies to comply with The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) 2002 Regulations, to control operatives’ exposure to dusts and fumes to below specified levels.
