DENA Comby

The Comby model activated carbon filters are designed for air purification and extraction systems. They include a type of disposable absorbent filter, which is perfect for capturing emissions with high levels of Volatile Organic Compounds – VOCs.

Disposable activated carbon filters

Activated carbon for air purification is a highly porous substance. Its effectiveness is directly related to the surface area of its pores. The solvent present in the air being filtered is condensed through capillarity and trapped in the activated carbon itself. The adsorption capacity is dependent on the surface area and is significantly affected by various factors, including the concentration of the solvent to be filtered, humidity, temperature, airflow speed, contact duration, and the particle size of the activated carbon used. Due to its dimensions and cubic design, the filter not only ensures a high filtration efficiency but also offers a considerable lifespan for the activated carbon charge.

Operating principle of activated carbon filters

The Comby model activated carbon filter is engineered to achieve an airflow speed of 0.3 m/sec and a contact duration of 1 second. This operational feature is accomplished by the inclusion of two vertical carbon beds within the cube structure. The air laden with VOCs enters the center of the filter and expands within the chamber. The air is then compelled by the fan's suction to pass through the two well-packed beds of activated carbon, exiting through the two vents located at the rear. Smaller versions may also be constructed with a single carbon bed while preserving the same airflow speed and contact time characteristics. The air can then be expelled outside through a chimney. The filter lacks pre-filtration; therefore, any solid particles in the air must be captured using separate systems beforehand.

Construction details

The Comby model activated carbon filter is constructed entirely from thick carbon steel sheet, meticulously processed and treated to enhance its longevity. The filter includes air inlet and outlet ports, support legs, inspection doors, and carbon discharge valves.
